Kick Off Tournament
This is a special tournament involving four teams: our current two teams and then men who used to play on the teams pick up a team for this day (Ryan Miller in the red) and a visiting team is invited (the man on the left.) This turns into a fun family day.
Ken (on the left talking to his father-in-law) is known to have a big heart. This is only the second year to have this special tournament and Ken talked to his wife, Dorinda, about giving the proceeds from the food stand to Glenn and Dawn. Glenn is Nevin and my brother-in-law who has a brain tumor. In the last six months he's had three seizures....each time the doctor increases his seizure medication. Then his body needs to adjust all over again as this leaves him very tired. Glenn was/is a hard working tractor mechanic, caring husband, loving father, and dear friend. He can now only work several hours a day....and on some days, not that. It pulls on our hearts to see this big, broad-shoulder guy so tired!
Before you bought your food, they had this picture of Glenn and Dawn. We were asked to sign our names on the matt. I know this will be very meaningful to them!
As family to Dawn and Glenn, Nevin and I want to ask the Lord to bless all of you who had a part in this day. Thank You, Thank You for blessing our loved ones.
Some of the items above were donated....the baked items were made by different ladies and were so enjoyable!! This was a quickie stop for us as we had guests coming for Sunday lunch and I had plenty to do at home in preparing for this meal. But we wanted to support Glenn and Dawn in this way and when we left home I grabbed my camera as a last minute thought.
When we arrived back home and I looked at our pictures, I realized I did not have any pictures of the busy Mothers doing the behind-the-scene work!! There were many helping hands there on Saturday. It was a joy to get a picture of these three girls serving the hot dogs and cheeseburgers...two of them are in my Sunday School class. Left: Joanna, Stephaine (moved on to the older class) and Abigail.
Colleen cheerfully served our sodas.
Abigail is serving my Mother a cheeseburger.
Nevin bought french fries.......they were oh so good! This is Tiffani, Ken and Dorinda's daughter. I admired her diligence at this warm and greasy job!
Sarah serving some fries to Jesse....I thought this would be a hard job for me - to not be taste testing!
~Sabrina's job
~Lelan on the left and Dave making our burgers
I'm not sure if this rice krispie is for little Caleb or his mother! Isn't he precious!
I see I did get one picture of a very busy Mother - behind Nevin is Dave's wife, Bev.
If you want to bless Nevin, make him an oatmeal whoopie pie!!
This was my treasure of the day!! I brought it along home as I thought tea would go soooooo well with this! I heard that Dorinda made these and my mind went immediately to her Mother. She died of ovarian cancer in her very early 50's and was my dear, dear friend. She enjoyed making items with yeast and she passed that on to her two daughters. Ruth Ann taught me how to make whole wheat bread when I was a young Mother. I called Dorinda about 8:30 Saturday evening and, bless her, she was still in food and equipment cleanup. (She said the cinnamon rolls are easy to make.)
This is one of Glenn and Dawn's sons, Dan. On the left is my "bestest" dearest friend.

We are very grateful to belong to a caring church family!
And this is a picture of the ones we love who are leaning on the Lord. We continue to lift them to Him in prayer.

Looks like such a fun day! I didn't realize that there was a ball game/tornement going on... It was neat that some of the players from the "past" came back to join in on the fun. Thank you for sharing through your pictures! Have a blessed week! ~Jen~
What a great day! That's so nice to donate proceeds from the food stand. I'm sure they will be so blessed by your thoughtfulness. Can he have an operation?

@homesteadingtess - Wow! I really enjoyed your little genealogy! Did his name catch your attention or did you recognize him immediately? Lelan's wife's mother was a Rohrer. Yes, it is a small world and the older I get the more I appreciate learning these things! I would love to talk to you sometime and hear your life's story as being chosen...into the Martin family.
I always say it but I can't help but notice the warmth & joy that always is so evident in every picture of your church family serving & enjoying life together. I had to smile when I read your comment about my latest post... Kyrie did look bigger & more mature when we got home. Amazing what a difference 2 days makes!! Praying for Glenn & Dawn.
@primrozie - Good Morning Primrozie - I called my sister last evening to get the correct terminology from her but she wasn't home so I'll put it in my words! (She has nursing skills; I don't!) Glenn has three little "spots" and they stay the same in size. His first seizure was September 2007 and they have stayed the same this entire time - known through MRI's, etc. These spots are back so far that if they would do surgery he has a very high risk of being paralyzed. Dawn has picked up more work at the retirement village where she is employed. My heart hurts for her. They have four precious grandchildren ages three and under! Dawn would just love to be home to spend more time with them but she just can't. I know they would appreciate your prayes!
@setapart1979 - Thank you so very much, Amber, for praying for Dawn and Glenn! I will tell them and I know they will appreciate it. This affects so many areas of their life....Glenn thoroughly enjoys singing and is a song leader at our church. He can't do that right now. This is just one small area that has made a change in his life.
Oh I knew him by seeing him
You know the more Info I give you the more you may come to know me:) I have many relatives in your circle
I bet ! My mom is in the Hospital and Her room mate is Mary Snyder ,do you know her by any chance ? She is 77 ..I know I know her form somewhere and I am going to talk to her tomorrow ,Thought maybe her name rang a bell with you ,I think I know her from Erismen's Mennonite I know I spelled that name wrong
I am sure she is from the Manheim area .I was born a Redcay from the Area ,My mom died giving birth to me,and My birth mom and dad were plain at the time,But sadly My father got into drinking and left the faith when my mom died ,He could not care for me and one day asked my Parents if they would take me,they knew him, and that's how I became a Martin:) My Birth dad is a Auctioneer ,I met him once ..I do not have any contact with other blood family,The Martin's are my family! So Much more I can tell you !
@homesteadingtess - Thank You! I feel like I'm reading a very, very interesting book!!
First, is your Mother's illness serious?
You said you may have many relatives in our circle....you must remember, I'm Brethren, not Mennonite!!
Our children went to a Mennonite High School and had a lot of fun with Mennonite/Brethren teasing and ALL in good fun. But seriously, I probably don't know as many as you may think as I most likely don't bump into them. BUT Nevin has a sister and brother-in-law who attend Erismen's!!
Wow....I am really moved at your life story! I cannot imagine how hard that must have been for your Dad...but to turn to drinking is so very sad. I really appreciate all you explained; I cannot imagine how grateful you must be to have been raised in a Christian family! I appreciate my Christian heritage more than I can ever express!
Well, what else shall we discuss??!!
This has been very special learning to know you better! One day we will see each other at the reuseit shop!! Blessings on the remainder of your week! ~Cordy
