This time - a message for Melissa!

They both are in the shape of a necklace; the one on the left is hard to see that. At each Amish store I told them I'm purchasing this for a friend. I asked them if I may return it if it is not the item she wants. And I may do that. The one on the left I found at the first store  but when I saw the one on the right at the second place, that one seemed to fit the picture you explained to me, Melissa. I'll wait to hear from you.

Explanation!   Melissa was asking, on her site, if anyone knew where to find these teething necklaces. I knew that in a few weeks I would be getting close to an Amish store. That happened today and was a fun and meaningful day!

Left to right: Millie, Velma, and my Mother.  Millie and Velma are sisters. Daddy's Mother and their Mother were sisters. Both ladies are widows. Last year Millie was a "new" widow and I wanted to do something for her so we planned a day away with the four of us. This July I thought maybe they would enjoy doing this again. All three agreed and said they looked forward to it. I was so blessed by being with them.

Ummmmm...where oh where is a teething necklace that fit's Melissa's description??

They also had Amish doll clothes.

They had row after row of fabric! My dear Mother tried to teach me to sew when I was growing up - even sending me to 4-H!! Leave me in the kitchen and I am happy but not at a sewing machine.  I admire those of you who turn out beautiful creations!

After the Amish stores, this was our next stop where Millie and Mother found something they liked. If you live in our area, you will recognize this as Brenda's Shop.

I must tell you this yet. Some of you are familiar with Shady Maple Smorgasbord. That is where we had lunch together.  I have said over and over to Nevin when we have a dinner date there (or breakfast - I love breakfast!) I wish I could see in their kitchen because I just cannot imagine how they can put out so much food!  (All four of us enjoy our kitchens.)

As we ladies were leaving we bumped into Mark, one of the managers. (His parents went to Pleasant Hill COB; some of you will remember him.) All of us knew him from his teenage years so we stood and talked awhile. He is just the nicest person to talk to. (I had my camera in the vehicle ) I expressed to him how I would love to take a tour of their kitchen. This was said as a statement - NEVER did I think that was a possibility. He said, "I can do that for you!!" I cannot tell you the joy we four experienced as we had a tour of this amazing place. Just to give you an idea of the amount of people they serve, I asked Mark, "What is the average number of people you serve on a  Saturday?" 7,500!!  Mother's Day they served 9,700!! For those of you who live out of state, if you ever get to Lancaster Co., please stop in here as the food is delicious! We were so very, very appreciative to Mark! He took his time and explained so many interesting things. I felt like the Lord ordered our steps because we had finished lunch and were on our way out when we saw Mark!!

  • that is so special ! and to think you got to see the kitchen!!! :) looks like a real fun day !!

,so glad you all had so much fun!!!

  • I so enjoyed seeing this entry and you taking the time to share your life here.  So fun!  Yes, I remember Melissa asking about the teethers... I used to receive a catalogue with many unique things like that.

Those little doll clothes are so sweet.  And that fabric store... Oh my dds and i would have so much fun there!

I think xanga is such a blessing when I see entries like yours. : )   Have a wonderful day in Jesus!     ~Amelia

  • That would've been so neat to see the kitchen. Why didn't you wait til December 26 for that?! :)

I hear you're doing corn the beginning of the week. Have fun! I get to keep two little ones on Monday now.

  • What fun!  I would love to have been able to go into the kitchen.  What wonderful finds at the stores you visited.  Everything was adorable.  Blessings for a wonderful weekend, Jill

  • What a fun day!  You always seem to find the most interesting shops & places to eat on your adventures!  The restaurant you mentioned sounds wonderful... I love buffets!  I can imagine that a kitchen equipped to produce food for such a huge crowd would be an impressive sight indeed!  I had to smile when I read that these were teething necklaces & not meant for fashion statements for a woman to wear because my first thought when I saw the photo before reading your post was that it looked like a child's teething ring!  I love this idea... I didn't know they even had such a thing! I don't sew either but share your admiration for those who can create with fabric!

  • AHHHHH Cordy you found it!!!!!!! I am grinning from ear to ear!!! The one on the right is exactly what I was thinking of!!! I am so excited. Oh that shop looked so exciting and right up my alley, especially with all that fabulous looking fabric. I find myself more in the kitchen, but would like to spend equal time in the sewing room if it were an option :)

That restauraunt sounds phenomenal and what a blessing to be able to see the inner workings of such an establishment!!!

Just let me know how much the necklace is and I will send you payment right away including the shipping! If you would include the name of the store as well, that would be great.

I just can't thank you enough, you have made my day!!! :) (((Hugs)))
    God bless,
    Melissa

  • @johndeere730 - You made me smile!! I could just see all 32 of us walking through that  kitchen!!! BUT it made my day! I DO wish you could see it! I told Mark I would love for Nevin to see this. He said if he's there sometime we are, he would be happy to take him through also!! It was such an honor to me. I thanked the Lord for it!!! Yes, we are doing corn Monday and Wednesday. Did you hear about the wonderful corn silker that can be rented?! I'll try to take pictures of it and put them on here. (The corn goes in one end of the pipe and comes out the other end - silked beautifully!! It involves brushes and water so the corn doesn't get bruised. )

  • @Missionfieldof5 - I was so delighted to find it for you. I will include the bill in the box and you can pay me after your receive it. I cannot tell you how much I wish sewing would flow for me!! That would be a wonderful gift. I'm sure, with little ones to raise and love that sewing time is limited!

  • Fun post Cordy!  I thought the day out w/ those ladies looked fun!  My hubby does quite a bit of work at Shady, and my brother in law actually is the maintenance manager.... He and Elvin's sister live in the owner's original home (right by the store)...  So we have a lot of connection to the place.... in fact... one of our guys (our employee) is headed there tomorrow for the day to fix something!  Unbelievable place!!

  • I had the pleasure of using one of the corn silkers... (a neighbor has one)  QUITE handy!!  ;)

  • so nice to see you the other eve., cordy, if only for a few minutes! it was even more special for you to spend the day w/ your mother & "older sisters;" i'm sure they were very blessed by your caring act. hope you're having a lovely week!

  • @allugot2Him - It was a joy for me, Joanna, to congratulate you in person!  Thanks for your encouraging words; it was a very special day with these special ladies! Have a great weekend with the one you love. ~Blessings

  • @pianowithjen - Jenny, it was SOOO interesting to read your message!! THANKS!!  You get to have real insight into that wonderful place!! I cannot tell you how blessed I felt that day to have that experience and you would know so much more! It blows me away how full that gets. One time we were going to Goods and drove by the restaurant  late afternoon and there were lines - outside the door and down the sidewalk!!! And you must hear much more amazing things than that! Not only are these facts amazing, but the food IS delicious! Only one problem, I hate when I overeat. But that is just too easy to do! I have a birthday not too far away and I asked Nevin just tonight if we could fit that evening into our schedule to be at Shady!!! :)

  • hey, Cordy,

i saw on your xanga sight about the grape necklaces you bought for someone.  i was going to tell you if she doesn't want both, i would gladly buy the one from you.  i had seen them before and thought of getting one for Jeznie to chew on but never got around to it.  but if you had planned to keep it for a gift that's fine.  i just thought if you don't want to bother returning the extra one, i would buy it from you.  have a great day.  wendi

  • @wendelle900 - Hi Wendi! I would love to give one to you but my friend, after seeing the pictures, asked if she may buy both of them - one for at home and one for her pocketbook, she said. The one with the leaves I bought at the Amish store  not too far from your Mother (near Hayloft.) The other one, without the leaves, I bought in the next town!  I should be getting in that area in about two weeks. Would you like me to get one for you? I would glady do that. Love, Cordy

  • hi cordy, this is actually wendi using beth's comupter. thanks for the offer but i can get one sometime when i am at my mom's house. thanks again ! wendi
