    Sleep-over!

It's been quite awhile since we had a sleep-over! We decided now would be a good time while Jere and Barb enjoy a "Valentine evening" with their Sunday School class.

Three times our youngest grandchild came to me, while playing, and said, "Grandma, I hardly ever get a chance to sleep on an air mattress. May I sleep on it?" I told him we'll need to talk about that later. After his third word for word request, I said, "Darin, we have two air mattresses and three boys! What do you think we should do?!"  He smiled! He left the kitchen and went to talk to his brothers and came back to tell me that Matthew (our oldest grandchild) said he will sleep in the bed. The simple joys of childhood are so precious to observe!

I love to read to our grandchildren.  It was a privilege tonight to read and pray together before sleeping.  This devotional has questions to offer to the younger children. Seth is very attentive; I'm not sure what Darin is thinking!!  I so appreciate Matthew's attitude as he willingly helps in the younger ones' activities.

    Rise and Shine!

Guess who was doing just that before Grandma awoke Saturday morning?!   Nevin always gets up early to have his devotions. It wasn't too much later that he heard little feet coming to the study/playroom to give him company!

We had a beautiful sunny morning. Why not get some exercise! As a young girl when we had cousins over for a meal, we often played volley-over afterwards. As the ball goes over the roof, if the other side catches it, they can come around either side of the building and then try to tag you with the ball!

First,  you don't know if they caught it!

Second, if they did, you don't know which corner they will come flying around to tag you!!!

Third, if they do hit you with the ball you are then on their team!

Matthew and Seth are both ready to claim this ball!!

Until Seth gets a little taller, it goes best to stand backwards to get more "oomph"  to his throw!! And it works for him!! (That's Pa. Dutch, Amber ... plan to get back to you about that! ) One time Matthew came flying around the corner....I was within his range and actually felt the air of the whizzing ball past my ear!! That was close enough to being on the other team....and maybe getting a headache!! We really enjoy this game - tumbles and all!

Uno was fun! Darin couldn't always hold all his cards, especially when he had the Draw Four card placed on him.  Then he would lay them all out on the table..... and you are to try not to look at them!!   (I'm drinking a Moroccan Mint Tea....it tastes very similar to what we call our spearmint meadow tea. It's one of those comforting teas.)

We just finished a cookie which happened to have icing on top!! How is a new four year old supposed to eat that - without making a mess?! During the meal he said, "Grandma, you are a good maker!" That was music to a Grandma's ears! :)

More memories to add to my album! I'm grateful for each one!

  • I enjoyed your post so much! We'll be keeping 3 of our grandchildren next weekend while their folks go away for a few days. I'm sure they'll be begging to sleep on the livingroom floor!

  • The simple joys of childhood are a precious thing to witness indeed!!!  I've never heard of volleyball played like this but it sounds exciting.   What a wonderful blessing that your grandchildren will have so many wonderful memories of time spent with you guys... some of my fondest memories were of time spent with my grandparents.

  • @ColeenSr - It was so special to see your message as I remember "meeting" you quite awhile ago! Then, instantly, I had this awful feeling......that I never got back to you after you were kind enough to answer some of my questions. When our children were still at home I always felt it was SO important to teach them - to express gratefulness!  Looks like their Mother failed in expressing that to you! I do apologize for not showing my appreciation to you before this. Thanks so much for your visit!
